Based in SoHo, New York, Thompson specializes in shaping and building brands. He is co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Frank August, an award-winning spirits brand which exists to reconsider and elevate the identity of bourbon by uniting heritage with modernity and design. He is also co-founder and Creative Director of an award-winning branding practice, Hunter S. & Thompson, where he’s developed work for Apple, TikTok, The New York Times, Samsung and Google.
Thompson leads with a philosophy that all brands have a potential to behave and exist with purpose.
As co-founder of Frank August, Thompson with his two partners, Johnathan Crocker and Luke DiTella, identified an opportunity in the bourbon category where heritage and modernity had yet to co-exist. Their brand vision was to create a modern expression of what bourbon is, what it could represent. Frank August was brought to market last year and is now distributed across America. And beyond its design, Frank August has been recognized as one of the world’s best whiskies by the industry’s most prestigious global spirit competitions.
More recently, Thompson also helped lead the development of P&G’s most successful brand sustainability initiative in its history, saving over 1 billion kg of Co2 for the planet (equivalent to removing 400,000 cars off the road for an entire year) and earning over 2 billion media impressions. The campaign was awarded 2 Cannes Lions (1 Gold), 2 D&AD Wood Pencils and The One Show’s coveted Green Pencil. It was also named one of AdAge’s “Best Ads and Creative Marketing Ideas of the Year”.
Prior, as Creative Director, Thompson helped lead the development and launch of a sub brand for Apple and created the brand identity for Otis, (acquired by Public). He also served as Creative Director for the album launch and live concert event for Coldplay which broke YouTube’s viewership record at 20M, crashing both YouTube and X (formally known as Twitter).
Thompson was also employee number 9 at Skillshare, where as Creative Director and Head of Marketing he oversaw the entire brand launch at which time they were named one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company and the number one startup to watch by Mashable.
Thompson has been fortunate for his work to be globally recognized by every major advertising award show and media outlet, including The New York Times, CNN, Rolling Stone, Variety, Good Morning America, Today Show, USA Today, Entertainment Weekly’s ‘The Must List’, VH1’s ‘Best Week Ever’, NPR, Fast Company, Buzzfeed, The Huffington Post and Wired.
